GGF’s John Mannell receives Freedom of the City of London honour

John Mannell, a dedicated member of the Worshipful Company of Glaziers, and Technical Officer and Training Manager at the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) has been honoured with the prestigious title of Freeman of the City of London. This recognition signifies John’s commitment to preserving and promoting the traditional crafts of stained and painted glass.

John joined the Worshipful Company of Glaziers in 2022, becoming an active member of the Training Committee. His passion for the craft was ignited by completing a City and Guilds in Architectural Stained Glass, leading him into the world of glazing. Despite his career in flat glass installation, John has consistently faced and addressed the challenges in training and maintaining competence within the industry.

The Freeman title, carries with it a rich history and a set of unique privileges, including the humorous right to walk sheep across the Thames River. More importantly, it underscores the significance of training apprentices and upholding high standards in traditional crafts, values that John deeply respects and strives to uphold with the Glass and Glazing Sector.

John Mannell expressed his gratitude, stating: “Becoming a Freeman of the City of London is a tremendous honour. The history and importance of this title in training apprentices and maintaining high standards are values that resonate with me. I hope to continue contributing to these traditions through my work with the Worshipful Company of Glaziers and the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF).”

John picked up the award alongside GGF CEO, John Agnew.
