Getting to know: Kelly’s Heroes Climb Kilimanjaro – Lucy Daniels

As part of the Kelly’s Heroes Climb Kilimanjaro charity fundraiser, we are getting to know the team taking on the incredible challenge between 12-21 September 2024.

Next up we hear from Doorco’s Lucy Daniels!

Name: Lucy Daniels

Job title: Distribution Account Leader

Company: DoorCo

How long you’ve been there? Almost five years. I started with DoorCo in 2019.

How long have you been in the glazing industry in total? Five years, DoorCo was my first step into the Glazing industry.

Why are you climbing Kilimanjaro? It’s all about the charity. Kelly’s Heroes is an incredible charity offering so much, however all this cannot be done without donations & fundraising, so these challenges are the perfect opportunity to help us give back. If I can help raise the money that could offer services to help at least one person, then the hard work is worth it.

How are you preparing? We have a few team training hikes planned, including Scafell Pike and the Yorkshire 3 Peaks which I’m really looking forward to. Luckily, I live in the Peak District so getting in some training hiking has been no struggle. Straight from my doorstep I have plenty of routes to chip away at. Alongside this, I train doing CrossFit at least five times per week to keep as fit as possible. Longer walks with steep inclines are currently my main aim daily.

What are you least looking forward to? The cold! I suffer with Raynaud’s syndrome so my hands and feet can get dreadfully cold, it can be super painful. Safe to say I’ll be taking plenty of hand warmers with me and wearing lots of layers.

What are you most looking forward to? The views, the memories we’ll make and the experience in general. Climbing Kilimanjaro is something I never dreamed I’d ever get the chance to do, so I will be making the most of every minute up that mountain.

What does Kelly’s Heroes mean to you? The work the charity does is nothing short of incredible. Mental Health is a struggle that more people cope with than we may know. We need to encourage people to speak up more to enable support from those around us. Kelly’s Heroes does a great job with spreading the message that ‘It’s Ok not to be Ok’. The charity offers both educational courses and personal help for those in need, providing a ‘Listening Ear’ 7 days a week on their website for those struggling.
