Allan Brothers going for the hat trick

Timber windows and doors manufacturer Allan Brothers is going for a hat trick of awards with its recent nomination in the ‘Employer of the Year’ category of the 2024 Best of Northumberland Awards.
This regional award, organised by National World, recognises companies that have shown commitment to the development and welfare of their employees by encouraging communication, creativity and proactivity as well as creating a fulfilling work environment with good staff relations, retention and opportunities for training. The award attracts entries from across the region.
“Our nomination is a significant marker in the company’s development,” said Managing Director Morten Bach Valsted. “It’s a reminder of how far we have come and how the enthusiasm and commitment of the entire team continues to make Allan Brothers such a positive and friendly workplace.”
Among the many initiatives introduced to make the workplace an excellent place to work, Allan Brothers this year pledged to pay its staff the ‘Real Living Wage’ at its factory in Berwick-upon-Tweed, and with training and career development a central pillar of its success, the company has also invested in the upskilling of its workforce.
As an additional marker if its success, the company achieved 80% satisfaction in the latest ‘Great Place to Work’ employee Trust survey, (over the 64% satisfaction score in the previous year).
This latest award nomination follows two previous award wins this year.
The company was joint winner of the Northumberland & Tyneside regional heat of 2024 North East Business Awards in the ‘Made in the North East’ category, which recognises excellence in manufacturing and production, and how it contributes to the wider economy.
Allan Brothers apprentice, Rafal Krzeminski, also won the ‘Engineering/Manufacturing Apprentice of the Year’ category of the 2024 North East Apprenticeship Awards. This award celebrates the achievements of some of the region’s most talented apprentices and the employers, colleges and training providers who provide those opportunities.
“This has been a very positive year for us,” said Morten. We are delighted to have been recognised in these awards as we continue to invest in our workforce, upgrade our product range and make significant improvements to our manufacturing capabilities as a sound basis for the current and future growth of the company.”
Allan Brothers has made a £2.6 million investment to upgrade its manufacturing processes, which included a £2.1 million state-of-the-art CNC window line along with new cutting and moulder lines, and improvements to factory efficiencies.
