Cwmtillery invests in new glass processing technology

Ebbw Vale-based, insulating glass unit (IGU) manufacturer, Cwmtillery Glass Centre (CGC), has purchased a second Glaston MULTI’ARRISSER which includes a new laser marker.

CGC, established by Paul and Cerianne Hayward in 1996, has grown from a modest workshop to today’s 120,000 m2 custom-built factory, delivering double and triple IGUs as well as toughened, laminated and decorative glass.

The company aims to be a highly regarded, quality-driven supplier to window manufacturers across the UK.

Paul Hayward, Managing Director of CGC, said: “Based on positive experience with our first Glaston’s MULTI’ARRISSER for glass edge arrissing, we chose to invest in a second machine to meet the needs of our increasing business.”

Repeat investment driven by performance

CGC first purchased from Glaston in 2003, starting with sealing robots, which were then supplied under the Bystronic brand.

Additional investments included a cutting table, four complete insulating glass (IG) lines with gas presses and speed sealers, a butyl extruder and a spacer filler followed. In 2024, the company invested in its first arrissing equipment.

The new MULTI’ARRISSER, commissioned in April 2026, reportedly produces the same quality glass – piece after piece – regardless of the operator running the line.

The machine uses only one cup wheel for all functions and thicknesses. This cuts back on the time and resources needed for processing nearly all glass shapes.

“Thanks to the consistent high quality and operational speed, our arrissing processes now take half the time with half the staff,” Paul said.

In addition, the latest MULTI’ARRISSER is equipped with a laser marker that etches production codes or company logos without damaging the glass coating.

CGC said it originally chose Glaston due to the quality of its machines, the UK-based service team and spare parts availability.

“Over the years, we have come to really appreciate Glaston’s market-leading technology, robust and reliable machinery and best possible back-up service,” Paul concluded.

“I have always found the Glaston UK engineering team to be quick, smooth and efficient. With this latest project, too, they didn’t disappoint us.”
