Outreach Angels deliver meals to those in need at Easter

Kirsty Fortnam, Glass Express Midlands’ Technical Manager and Social Value Ambassador, discusses her latest volunteering over the Easter weekend with Birmingham-based Outreach Angels.
On Easter Sunday I was out with the Outreach Angels. Our usual night is Tuesday, Providing hot meals, hot drinks, sandwiches, food bank items, clothing and bedding to the homeless and the vulnerable, we set up just outside Birmingham central library.
But every Easter Sunday we do a special Outreach and we let our families and kids come along too. We go out on the Easter Sunday afternoon with a Sunday dinner (cooked by ourselves) hot cross buns, easter eggs and chocolate treats. As well as out usual food bank items.
Six years of volunteering
I have been volunteering with Outreach Angels for six and a half years now, but since Arun Photay purchased Glass Express, he has been so kind in supporting us as a business.
I am the first aider for Outreach and Glass Express purchase many of our first aid supplies. As a play on “Kirst” and “first aid”, the back of my high vis says ‘Kirst – Aid’.
This Easter, like many others, Arun brought us hot cross buns, chocolate rolls and chocolate eggs, All a firm favourite with our service users.
Outreach Angels have recently been nominated for a Kings award, which is very exciting for us all and the two ladies who do all the organising Liz Morrey and Sally Ann Parsons.
Generating ‘much-needed funds’
As part of our celebrations, we ran an Easter hamper raffle, generating much needed funds for the food items we use to prepare the hot meals, We are also very lucky to be supported by both Hennesseys bar in Birmingham, and the Jolly Sailor in West Bromwich who both cook once a month for us.
Please get in touch if you would like to donate of volunteer.
