NWD enhances community spaces at Bristol youth centre

Nationwide Windows and Doors (NWD) has successfully delivered a bespoke door installation for the Foundation for Active Community Engagement (FACE) at Patchway Youth Centre in Bristol, reinforcing its commitment to social value and community support.

This initiative was undertaken in partnership with Sovereign Network Group (SNG), one of the UK’s largest housing associations. Formed from the merger of Network Homes and Sovereign Housing Association in October 2023, SNG provides good quality, affordable homes with a wide range of flexible housing options across London and the South of England.

As part of its social value commitments to SNG, NWD designed and fitted a custom-made communal door that not only enhances security but also significantly improves the welcoming nature of the space. The new installation replaces an outdated door that was restrictive and uninviting, transforming the centre into a more accessible and inclusive environment for young people.

Chris Bowen, Senior Project Manager at Nationwide Windows & Doors, commented: “We’re pleased to have supported SNG with the replacement of the communal door. It’s not just about the practical upgrade but also about helping to create a safer and more welcoming environment for everyone who uses the space. It’s great to see the positive impact this will have on the community.”

The transformation has already received positive feedback from the youth centre, highlighting the impact of the upgrade. Dawn Young, from FACE, said: “The young people love it. It works much better logistically for them – we can now keep the doors open, making it more welcoming. Our old door felt like a prison door with bars – you couldn’t look in. We wanted a more inviting space, and thanks to NWD, we now have it. It’s wonderful to have a company invested in our community and youth space.”

By delivering this project, NWD has demonstrated how industry know-how can be leveraged to create meaningful change. The SNG Social Value Team acknowledged this contribution, stating: “It’s fantastic to see NWD using their expertise to make a positive impact on the community and young people.”
