‘Watter’ star!

You may have seen our post in April about Nina Watters, Finance Director at SupaLite, taking part in her second London Marathon, raising money for the charity Young Minds.

Well unfortunately for Nina, things did not go to plan, with a stomach bug meaning Nina could only complete seven of the 26.2 miles.

She said: “I was devastated, I was certain I was going to get a marathon PB as my training had been spot on. I felt like I’d let the people who sponsored me down after raising a whopping £2000 for Young Minds.”

But, despite feeling down that she could not complete this marathon, it did not deter Nina.

In the days that followed and once she’d got out of her sick bed, she picked herself up and set about planning training for another event, the Lakeland 50. She said she felt like she owed it to those who’d supported her through and during London Marathon.

The Lakeland 50 is said to be one the greatest ultra trail challenges in Europe, perhaps the world. It is run over the second half of the Lakeland 100 Ultra Tour of the Lake District, completing the final 50 miles of the 100 course.

Nina smashed this event in just over 23 hours, and now feels on ‘cloud nine’.

She said: “Having experienced the most incredible weekend, the event is possibly one of the best organised I’ve taken part in.

“The volunteers are angels, who will do their upmost to help you. From reminding you how much time you have before you need to get out of the checkpoint before the cut off and on to the next. 4am I was sat in Ambleside with both feet up being bandaged to protect my blistered soles. We joked about feeding me grapes and someone fanning me. Nothing was too much for those people The can of Irn Bru on the way out of Ambleside tasted better than anything I’ve ever drunk.

“I’m so grateful for the messages I received while I was out there.”

“Seeing both the sunset and sunrise during the event was pretty surreal. It was one of the most beautiful days I have witnessed.

“The memories of this weekend will last a lifetime. The aches and pains I currently have are a reminder of how much I put into it. Roll on July 2025!”
