Ashfen’s Nat Weaver signs up for Kilimanjaro climb

Ashfen Windows and Doors’ Nat Weaver has signed up join the likes of our ‘Chief PiG’ Sarah Ball and several other members of the glazing sector in climbing Mount Kilimanjaro this September in aid of charity Kelly’s Heroes.
Nat explained how the decision to get involved came about. She said: “I’ve come to this industry from a lengthy background in prison, youth offending and child protection work, so Kelly’s Heroes is a charity I’ve been aware of for a number of years now. We’ve got numerous contacts on social media and I kept seeing people do these fantastic challenges for charity.
“I kept thinking to myself, ‘I need to get involved in one of these!’, but it wasn’t until a conversation with Sarah (Ball) that participating suddenly became a reality. Little did I know I’d be signing up to climb Kilimanjaro les than two weeks later!
“Mental Health became more and more of a topic of discussion throughout my social care career, and I feel strongly about Kelly’s Heroes’ work, as we need to really make it acceptable to talk, share difficulties, and seek help and advice. The apparent suddenness with which Kelly Francesca Hewitt ended her own life is a clear example of how a person of any age might be suffering without the knowledge of anyone around them. Spreading awareness of how to spot that someone is not OK, and how to best support them, is crucial. All I can think is that raising this money will help Kelly’s Heroes continue this amazing work, so I’m incredibly determined to give it all I can.
“Nick – my partner and business Co-Owner – and I have a dog, so I’m using our usual walking slots to train, but going twice as far with a lot more gusto, and uphill where possible! I’ve started getting out on organised hikes with a local guide, and Nick had the brilliant idea to cover me in ankle and wrist weights while out walking – let me tell you, they’re taking some getting used to!
“It’s also worth acknowledging that, whilst it’s hard physical work training for a challenge like this, it’s also an amazing opportunity to do exactly what Kelly’s Heroes advocate – looking after my own mental health and wellbeing by getting outside, staying active, and knowing that I’m contributing to something incredibly worthwhile.”
