Renowned motorcycle racer Ian “Lucky” Lougher Visits APS

Renowned motorcycle racer Ian “Lucky” Lougher recently visited Aluminium & Plastics Systems (APS) to source materials for a new fence after Storm Eowyn wreaked havoc on his property.
While fencing may not be a traditional glazing product, it remains an important part of APS’s extensive range, reinforcing their commitment to serving customers with diverse needs.
APS, based in Lisburn, County Antrim, provides aluminium and PVC-U products to the general construction industry
Ian, originally from Wales, has called Northern Ireland home for nearly 30 years. His journey began on building sites alongside his father before transitioning to lorry driving.
However, it was in 1981 that he found his true passion—motorcycle racing. Despite not coming from a racing background, Lougher quickly excelled, proving his natural talent on the track.
A legend in pure road racing, Lougher boasts an impressive career spanning decades, with over 130 starts at the Isle of Man TT, securing 10 wins and more than 30 podium finishes.

His remarkable achievements include 18 victories at the Ulster Grand Prix, placing him second only to the late Joey Dunlop. Such is his legacy that a section of the circuit is named in his honor.
Beyond competing, Lougher now runs his own race team, mentoring riders from around the world. His expertise in bike building, race setup, and strategy makes him an invaluable figure in the sport. Even at 62, he continues to race, winning the 250cc Manx Grand Prix in 2024.
Living in Waringsford, County Down, with his wife Asa and their dog Tiki, Ian remains a humble icon of road racing.
APS said it was proud to have supported him in his latest home project.
