Machu PiGchu: Getting to Know Gemma Diratzonian
In October, a team of brave PiGs will take on the iconic Inca Trail in Peru, all in aid of our Charity of the Year, Harry’s Pals.
In this series of articles, we’re introducing you to the people behind the challenge, finding out a little more about what inspired them to take part, how they’re preparing for the adventure and what they’re looking forward to most.
This article is all about Gemma Diratzonian. We caught up with her to find out more about their Machu PiGchu journey…

Why did you sign up for the Inca Trail?
I signed up because Sarah Ball, Andrew Charlesworth and Sam Nuckey convinced me it was a great idea while we were on the PiGs boat tour last year.
When I woke up the following day, I actually felt quite excited by the prospect and continued the conversations with Sarah from there.
What are you most looking forward to?
I’m most looking forward to stepping outside my comfort zone, challenging myself both mentally and physically, getting to know some great people even better, and ultimately reaching Machu Picchu.
What are you most nervous about?
I’m most nervous about being without my home comforts and spending so much time away from my family.
Of course, there’s also the challenge itself. It’s going to push me physically and mentally, but that’s all part of the adventure and what makes the achievement so worthwhile.
How’s the training going?
It’s fair to say I haven’t trained as much as I would have liked. Life is busy! That said, I’m relatively fit, so I’m hoping I can wing it and make it through.
What does Harry’s Pals mean to you?
Having met Andrew and Hayley and learning about the incredible work they do has really motivated me to hit my fundraising target.
The world needs more charities like Harry’s PALS, and I’m proud to be supporting such an important cause.
In three words, how would you describe the challenge ahead?
Scary. Exciting. Unforgettable.
