Machu PiGchu: Getting to know Siôn Buckley

In October, a team of brave PiGs will take on the iconic Inca Trail in Peru, all in aid of our Charity of the Year, Harry’s Pals.

In this series of articles, we’re introducing you to the people behind the challenge, finding out a little more about what inspired them to take part, how they’re preparing for the adventure and what they’re looking forward to most.

This article is all about Siôn Buckley. We caught up with him to find out more about their Machu PiGchu journey…

Why did you sign up for the Inca Trail?
I wanted to push myself with a tough but rewarding hike. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and being able to raise money for a great cause makes it even more worthwhile.

What are you most looking forward to?
Seeing Machu Picchu in person and getting a close look at the incredible architecture. It’ll be amazing to experience somewhere I’ve only seen in pictures.

What are you most nervous about?
Sleeping in tents without access to showers! I’m excited about the hiking, but I’ll definitely miss a few home comforts.

How’s the training going?
Training is going well, with plenty of hikes up big hills to get the legs ready. Every climb is helping me feel a little more prepared!

What does Harry’s Pals mean to you?
Harry’s Pals provides much-needed emotional support to parents of children with severe illnesses or disabilities.

I think it’s so important that parents have someone to turn to during such difficult times. I’m proud to play a small part in helping the charity continue that work.
