Getting to know: Kelly’s Heroes Climb Kilimanjaro – Nat Weaver

As part of the Kelly’s Heroes Climb Kilimanjaro charity fundraiser, we are getting to know the team taking on the incredible challenge between 12-21 September 2024.
Next up is Nat Weaver, Director of Derby-based window and door supplier Ashfen Windows and Doors.
Name: Nat Weaver
Job title: Director
Company: Ashfen Windows and Doors Ltd
How long you’ve been there? We got the keys to the unit in November 2021
How long have you been in the glazing industry in total? Since November 2021!
Why are you climbing Kilimanjaro? How could I turn this opportunity down? It’s the chance to do something extraordinary with a fantastic group of people, for a fantastic cause – all the while we’ve got the remember that we’re raising money to support an ongoing source of hope for so many people. It’s also completely outside of my comfort zone, in a country that I’d likely never have had the chance to visit otherwise!
How are you preparing? I’m active anyway, but I’ve ramped up the physical activity – my usual daily dog walking slot is now either a running or hiking slot, and I’m out and about as many weekend as possible for long hikes in the country, now with about 10kg on my bag for added discomfort!
What are you least looking forward to? I’m really nervous about how the altitude might affect me, as I don’t want to let anyone down by not making it to the summit.
What are you most looking forward to? The views, and the camaraderie! We had such a laugh together when we climbed Scafell Pike recently, so the banter will be good, I’m sure!
What does Kelly’s Heroes mean to you? I come from a long career in social care and mental health services, and was aware of the charity from my last job before Ashfen. Services like those provided by Kelly’s Heroes are so crucial in our society today – people experience difficulties, and there’s no getting away from that, so there’s should be no shying away from helping one another through these tough experiences. This support can mean the difference between someone taking their own life, and someone deciding to live.
