Getting to know: Kelly’s Heroes Climb Kilimanjaro – Ian Ward

As part of the Kelly’s Heroes Climb Kilimanjaro charity fundraiser, we are getting to know the team taking on the incredible challenge between 12-21 September 2024.

Next up we hear from Ian Ward of CNC Recycling.

Name: Ian Ward

Job title: Sales & Purchasing Director

Company: CNC Recycling Ltd

How long you’ve been there? Three and a half years

How long have you been in the glazing industry in total? 12 years

Why are you climbing Kilimanjaro? It was originally on my bucket list, but when Sarah (Ball) put it onto the PiGs social media a year ago, it really appealed to me and knowing the charity I thought it was a wonderful opportunity to raise some funds for Kelly’s Heroes.

How are you preparing? Firstly, I concentrated on losing weight with Slimming World so now I’m at my lowest weight since my 20’s. I have also started walking longer walks/hikes and visiting the gym to more regularly to start to build up my fitness.

What are you least looking forward to? My main concern is about the altitude sickness and ensuring my knees don’t get too sore on the descent, otherwise I’m looking forward to every aspect of the trip.

What are you most looking forward to? The achievement of getting to the top and creating for myself a life changing experience and a memory that will last forever.

What does Kelly’s Heroes mean to you? Knowing many of the people personally that are involved with the charity and the unbelievable work they do both myself and the company in particular have been keen supporters of Kelly’s Heroes.

As a company we resonate with what the charity is all about and the importance of what they are trying to achieve so for me to be able help and be this supporter to Kelly’s Heroes is a privilege.
