Endurance Doors’ “Brew Monday” help colleagues get through the year’s most depressing day

During the recent “Blue Monday”, which is said to be the most depressing day of the year, composite door manufacturer Endurance Doors encouraged its team to enjoy a cup of tea and a chat.
As part of its ongoing commitment to the mental and physical welfare of its colleagues, the manufacturer used Blue Monday to stage Brew Monday.
Sharleen Lawless, HR Director at the business, explained: “The concept of Blue Monday first appeared in 2005 and usually falls on the third Monday in January. Whilst the science behind it being the most depressing day of the year is inconclusive, there’s no doubt that in January people’s mood can often be a little lower than usual.
“At this time of the year, the weather doesn’t tend to be great, the days are short, failed new year resolutions are common and finances can be tight after the festive period. Whatever the reason or rationale, it remains a great opportunity to shine a light on mental health and to inspire our team to check in with each other.”
As part of the day and to encourage everyone to get involved, Endurance Doors donated free tea bags to its staff, complete with a message outlining the importance of looking out for each other.
Staging Brew Monday, which was originally developed by the Samaritans, adds to a growing number of initiatives from Endurance Doors which are focused on its team’s welfare.
It also offers medical plans, free annual eye tests, an employee assistance programme, which provides 24/7 advice and support for financial, legal, health and other issues, and dedicated wellbeing programmes that cover everything from fitness and nutrition to smoking cessation.
Sharleen added: “Endurance Doors is very much a people-orientated business. We value our team and fully recognise the role our people’s professionalism, enthusiasm, and ability to embrace our values has played in making us the successful brand we are today. Our significant and on-going investment into employee health and wellbeing directly reflects this appreciation.”
