Tradeglaze (Lincoln)’s Sophie Wetherall to take on charity 10k

Assistant Marketing Manager of Tradeglaze (Lincoln), Sophie Wetherall, is preparing to take on her first ever running event this weekend (12 April), as she lines up at the Lincoln 10K on Sunday.

Having set herself the challenge at the start of the year with no prior running experience, Sophie said she has stepped well outside of her comfort zone.

To prepare for the race, Sophie has trained consistently two to three times a week, embracing the upcoming challenge.

She said she has had to overcome runs in the early mornings, dark evenings and cold conditions, which have now given way to more enjoyable Spring runs.

The race, which winds through the historic city and finishes in front of the iconic Lincoln Cathedral, will see Sophie run alongside two friends and her brother, who have all played a key role in keeping her motivated and pushing her throughout her training journey. Family members will also be there at the finish line to cheer her on.

Sophie is running in aid of Parkinson’s UK, a cause close to her heart. Her Grandad, who lives with Parkinson’s, and her Grandma, his full-time carer, have been a huge source of inspiration throughout her journey.

Her efforts also coincide with Parkinson’s Awareness Month, with World Parkinson’s Day taking place just a day before the race.

Already surpassing her original fundraising target of £250, Sophie has raised £440 and counting, thanks to generous support from family, friends and colleagues.

Sophie said: “At the start of the year I set myself the challenge to run the Lincoln 10K with no running experience, so I am really proud of how far I have come.

“It’s been tough at times, especially getting out to train after work, but once I’m out, I really enjoy it.

“I’m just really excited for race day now and can’t wait to get out there, especially knowing I’m doing it for my Grandad and such an important cause.”
