AluK launches Move for Life charity initiative

AluK’s annual Run for Life initiative, which raises money for the Breast Cancer Now charities, will reportedly look a bit different this summer. The relays and park runs from previous years, will be replaced with walks, static bike and yoga challenges, as the event transforms into a much more inclusive Move for Life event.
It’s still all about raising as much sponsorship as possible from AluK, and from family and friends inside and outside the industry; but this time there will be lots of different ways for everyone in the team to join in – no matter what their fitness levels are.
To provide extra motivation for anyone to sign up, Andy Lewis MBE, a local European, World and Paralympic triathlon champion, will be at AluK on 3rd June to tell his inspirational story and fire the starting pistol on the whole event.
Walk
AluK will get things moving with an 812 mile group sponsored walk. In a nod to this summer’s Paris Olympics, 812 miles is the equivalent distance from Chepstow to Paris – and back, so the company has asked as many people as possible to sign up and track the distance they walk – until collectively we hit that target. If we get 100 sign ups, that’s just over 8 miles each.
Cycle
For those who would rather exercise indoors however, AluK has also installed a static exercise bike in its canteen for the whole of June. Everyone will be able to pedal during their breaks and, as soon as they complete a total of 40 minutes pedalling during the month, the business will make a donation to the cancer charity.
Exercise/Yoga
Even a 30 minute exercise class will count towards the company’s Move for Life total, and it will have free boot camp and yoga classes taking place (donated by local trainers) for anyone who wants to join in. Again, the business will donate for everyone who joins in – and for everyone who clocks up walks, runs, bike rides and exercise outside of work too.
Last year, AluK raised more than £600 with Run For Life – with Move for Life, it is hoping to raise even more.
