SWC Trade Frames team to take on charity walk for three charities

Mark Catchpole, SWC Trade Frames Sales Director, shares information about the company’s upcoming SWC Charity Family Walk on 15 August, raising money for Motor Neurone Disease Association, Saint Catherine’s Hospice and Prostate Cancer UK.

“The upcoming SWC Charity Family Walk is shaping up to be its biggest yet.

“This is the second family walk we have organised, and this year we have more than 90 colleagues, family members, customers and friends taking part.

“For us, the walk is about much more than fundraising, it is about bringing the SWC family together to show our support for three charities and causes that mean a great deal to us personally.

“The turnout has been so fantastic that we have had to arrange two private buses to get everyone to the starting point!

“SWC is covering the cost of the transport and bright green T-shirts for everyone taking part, which we hope will create quite a sight and help us raise even more awareness along the way.

“We will be walking from Hayburn Wyke, following the old Cinder Track into Scarborough, before finishing at The New Tavern for a well-earned drink and a game of darts.

“This walk is the first of two major fundraising events. The second will be our fifth “It’ll Be Alright on the Night” on 9 October at Scarborough Rugby Club, an evening of entertainment featuring Bobby Davro and a “Bandeoke” night, where guests get the chance to sing live with a band.

“There are some very personal reasons behind the charities we are supporting.

“The reason for doing these walks are we sadly lost an amazing customer and friend, Paul Hunter, to Motor Neurone Disease.

“Paul had an association with SWC from the very beginning and we were all devastated to lose such a kind, funny and genuinely lovely person.

“He was a huge character and very much part of daily life here at SWC. Paul’s wife will be joining us on the walk, and she has already done a tremendous amount of fundraising herself to help raise awareness of this terrible disease.

“One of our colleagues, and one of our biggest fundraisers, Ken Boak was also diagnosed with prostate cancer early last year.

“Thankfully, it was detected early and Ken has undergone treatment, with things looking very positive.

“Our third charity is Saint Catherine’s Hospice. So many of us are touched or connected in some way by the incredible work they do, providing end-of-life care and supporting people and families throughout our local community.

“At SWC, we have always been about family. Bringing more than 90 people together, having a great time and raising money for three causes so close to our hearts feels like a real win-win.

“Every single penny we can raise will help, and hopefully our sea of bright green T-shirts will get a few people talking and help raise awareness too!”
